Not so new to the league, but new to the winner circle, MUSA saw two new champions crowned on Sunday October 21st for the Fall 2012 basketball season. Both champions from last season made the finals, but both fell short paving the way for Basket Brawlers in Tosa and God’s Favor in Greenfield.
In Tosa, RW Baird was no match for returning champ Monstars as they put a 20 point beat down on the hopefuls in the semi-final game. This set up a rematch from the Winter 2012 semi-final game against Basket Brawlers which saw the Monstars win 49-45. This season would be a little different as the Basket Brawlers relied on their outside shooting hitting 11 of 35 beyond the arc and even hitting a 3 pointer for the win at the buzzer, winning 81-79. Monstars played the inside game and killed the Brawlers on the boards but it just wasn’t enough. Basket Brawler Marty Collins lead all scorers with 23 and the Monstars Logan Frami lead both teams with 12 rebounds.
At Greenfield HS, God’s Favor got out to an early 12 point lead and was able to hold off Hoops Like Jagger’s run at the end and take the title away from the defending champs 66-63. God’s Favor was able to go undefeated and take home their first title having struggled as a team putting up just a 2-5 record last season. Good recruiting has positive results.
Congratulations to both teams and thanks to all the others for playing this season!
