Basketball08WEEK 5 RECAP

The early game wasn’t without drama. Sky Zone needed a win against Big Shots to give them a chance at the playoffs, but it just wasn’t meant to be. Big Shots was able to keep last season’s runner-up out of the playoffs beating them by the slimmest of margins, 61-60. The win earned Big Shots a #3 seed in the playoffs.

Even though Young Bucks had a spot in the playoffs already sewn-up, the 78-71 loss to Team Hustle was still a surprise. Team Hustle hadn’t won a game all season until last Sunday and maybe this is just the confidence they need heading into the Winter session.

Showtime didn’t let up just because they had the #1 seed in the playoffs. Keeping their momentum going they battled their way to a 75-69 victory over the #4 seed Purple Rain. This sets up the rematch next week for the semi-finals.

PLAYOFF LOOK AHEAD

Sunday marks the start of the 2014 MUSA Basketball Fall II playoffs with the #1 seed Showtime going against the #4 seed Purple Rain. These teams just faced each other last week and Showtime won by 6. Purple Rain has their work cut out for them, but they’ll need to contain Showtime’s Big-3 of Barfield, Doughty, and Williams.
Showtime -8

In the 2nd semi-final of the night we see #2 seed Young Bucks going against #3 Big Shots. Both teams are 3-2 but Young Bucks defeated Big Shots by 21 in their previous meeting and it’s going to take a perfect game by Big Shots if they want to get to the championship.
Young Bucks -12

Next Week’s Schedule
6:00pm Sky Zone vs Team Hustle
7:00pm Showtime vs. Purple Rain
8:00pm Young Bucks vs. Big Shots

MUSA United just rolled over last place team Los Guerreros by the score of 17-3 and it really wasn’t even that close. Having the game in hand early, the United bunch took some unnecessary risks by bringing the goalie forward on some set pieces which led to some breakaway goals for the opposing side, but in the end it was all Red.

Next week will be a big challenge for the United bunch as they take on Piracy who is top of the table and have yet to see defeat. Game time is 9:00pm on court 1.

WEEK 4 RECAP

Purple Rain out hustled Team Hustle to the tune of 77-52 and earned their second win of the season to improve to 2-2 on the season. Team Hustle is still looking for their first win and are 0-4.

Young Bucks put Big Shots away early as they were able to maintain their 21 point halftime lead and go on to win 76-55 on the shoulders of Bobby Komorwoski with 25 and Paul Keller with 22.

The shootout in the late game saw Sky Zone fall to undefeated Showtime by the score of 88-82. Mike Tapp from Sky Zone lead all scorers with 36 points, but it wasn’t enough to lead them past the #1 team in the league who shot over 55% from the floor.

WEEK 5 LOOK AHEAD

The last week before we start playoffs and a few things are clear; Showtime has the #1 spot clinched regardless of the outcome of this upcoming week; Young Bucks are the #2 seed; and the real race is for the #3 & #4 spots. We’ve got 3 teams looking to advance. Big Shots and Purple Rain, win and you’re in. Sky Zone needs help but a win this week against Big Shots will give them a chance.

MKE Bar Stool Open

The MUSA Putt Putters had a swinging-good time playing indoor miniature golf at a variety of local watering holes last Saturday in the MKE Bar Stool Open. It was fun to see what each bar had in store for the putters and we have to say our friends at Fire on Water upped the challenge factor with a two-level hole and well-placed obstacles. Our tour included Fore, Fire on Water, Swingin’ Door, The Hudson, KASana, Irish Pub, Club Charlie’s, Oak and Evolution. Creative team costumes and cheerful volunteers made the day.  Our final score was a 20 which didn’t win us any prizes and not one hole-in-one for us.

Maybe next year!

Futal/Soccer

The MUSA M.A.S.H. Unit as they might be called now, limped to a 10-7 victory over Everton last night in the In-Bounds Gold division. MUSA only showed with 4 players because most of them are injured, so they had to pull two people from the stands to help out. Luckily the subs gelled well and were positive contributors to the United cause. MUSA United now sits 4th in the table and is looking to move up next week as they prey on 0-4 Los Guerreros. Hopefully the boys will be back to full strength and ready for the meat of the schedule coming up.

Next week Monday they play at 8:00pm on court 2.

2014 Turkey Shoot Dodgeball Champs – SuperDudes

Super Turkey Tuesday

The SuperDudes did it again. Starting off the Sky Zone Dodgeball Series on the right foot, they defeated Boomtown in the Turkey Shoot tournament last night.

The SuperDudes did stumble against top Sky Zone team FHRITP in the group stage, but once in the elimination rounds they plowed through ASAP Mob and Alpha on their way to Boomtown in the championship.

Thanks to all the teams.  See you in the next tournament on December 16th.

The Dodgeball Series at Sky Zone will continue through the Winter. Check out all dates below.

WEEK 3 RECAP

Purple Rain was able to get their first win of the season, 61-56, at the expense of the struggling Sky Zone team in the 6:00pm game Sunday night. Tre Love of Purple Rain lead all scorers with 25 points.

Showtime continued to show its dominant force in the league with a big win over Young Bucks, 85-61. Despite Bobby Komorowski’s game leading 31, the Young Bucks weren’t able to hang with Dontae Doughty and the undefeated Showtime crew.

Team Hustle continues to struggle as they are edged by Big Shots 59-52. Big Shots climb to 2-1 while Team Hustle falls to 0-3.

It wasn’t pretty with only 1 sub, but the United crew was able to beat Avoid the Noid 7-5 last night in week 3 of the In-Bounds Futsal league and improving to 2-1 on the season. Thankfully they were able to bounce back from last week’s loss despite the low number of players.

Next week Monday they play Everton (2-1) at 8:00pm.

Two Down, Two to Go

Basketball07

Last week’s Weekly Reader had the subject title Get That Championship Feeling.  Little did I know then that we would actually crown 4 (not just 3) champions in 4 different sports this month!!  Join me in congratulating our latest MUSA Champions!

First, Money Balls beat Sky Zone 50-47 in our St. Bernard’s basketball league.  It was a very competitive and fun championship to watch on Sunday. Before the final game tip-off, we crowned our first ever 3-point contest winner, Paul Keller from the Young Bucks.

The MUSA United Futsal team took home championship glory as they defeated a young and inexperienced Underdogs team 10-3 in the In-Bounds Training Futsal league championship game. Leading only 5-3 at half, the United crew were able to shutout the Underdogs in the 2nd half and take the League ‘B’ title.

Learn more about other upcoming championships and how to get in on the action below. This month ain’t over until we set the stage for the Golden Lunchbox Tournament and survive the Dodge of the Dead dodgeball tournament at Sky Zone.

Haunted Lunchbox Treats

Time to start thinking about EOS Weekend and the road to the Golden Lunchbox. It all starts on Thursday October 30th with the EOS Selection Show held at O’Brien’s. Come learn the fate of your favorite kickball team when we pick balls out of a bag and find out the who, where, and when of the Golden Lunchbox Tournament bracket. Fill your bracket out for chances to win cash.

Saturday November 1 marks the Golden date when the tournament gets rollin’ and kickin’ at Wick. All standard division teams are welcome to participate in the highly anticipated kickball tournament to mark the end of another fantastic season. Does your team want to play?

Team or no team, it’s still playtime after dark.  We’ve got a kickball bash for both the living and the dead at J & B’s Blue Ribbon Bar & Grill on Bluemound.  Party starts at 8:00pm with free beer, soda, and pizza until 10:00pm.  Cash bar treats continue for as long as you can stand. DJ Fred X will be there once again to keep the unchaperoned groove on the dance floor flowin’. The trophy ceremony and Hall of Fame inductions are at 10:00pm.  Don’t miss out on this celebration. Hibernation mode can start on Sunday.

2014 Fall Basketball Champs: Money Balls

Money in the Bank

Money Balls takes the 2014 MUSA Fall basketball league going a perfect 8-0 on the season and beating Sky Zone 50-47 in an entertaining championship game. Even though both teams shooting percentage was in the 30’s, it was still an action packed game to watch. Money Balls got out to a small lead early, but could never bring it to where they felt comfortable. Each time they’d make a run, Sky Zone would make a run of their own keeping the score close throughout the game. With seconds winding down and trailing by 3, Sky Zone tried calling a timeout to set up their final play with 7 seconds left on the clock. Unfortunately, Sky Zone didn’t have a timeout left and the officials called for the technical foul thus giving Money Balls the win with a 5 point lead and the ball.

But wait.

After some discussion, Money Balls decides they don’t want to win like this and allows the timeout to be granted giving Sky Zone another shot. A wonderful show of sportsmanship pays off as their defense held Sky Zone to an off balance 3-point attempt that clanked off the rim and earned Money Balls the Fall Basketball Championship.

2014_3pt_PaulKellerBefore we crowned a basketball champion, we wanted to see who was the best 3-point shooter in the league.  We invited any and all willing to take the challenge and a shot at $50. Five brave souls stepped forward willing to give it a shot, but it was Paul Keller from the Young Bucks team beating Dan Kopp and Max Monday in the final round to take home MUSA basketball glory as well as $50 for his pocket. Congrats Paul and thanks to all the shooters that participated in our first 3-point contest.

See you at the gym.

Championship Week

We’ve finally come down to the MUSA Fall Basketball league championship between Sky Zone and Money Balls. Sky Zone defeated the previous season champion Young Bucks, 77-59 in the Red division while Money Balls continued with their winning ways by beating Shooters, 72-61 in the White division. On paper it looks like a pretty good matchup considering their points scored and points against stats are almost identical.

Before we get into all that though, we’re holding a 3-point contest with some of the best shooters in the league. 9 players will shoot it out for MUSA glory and a chance to be the first ever MUSA basketball 3-point champion.

Leading at the half 5-1 the tired United bunch were able to tighten the defense just long enough in the second half to keep on top of the scoresheet and league table. Next up, Zamunda FC who the boys in red have already crushed 14-3 earlier in the season.

MUSA United’s outdoor season is finished, but stay tuned for indoor league information.

Only a Month Away

Temps are getting a little cooler now as we head into the last weeks of the season. Be sure to warm up before your game to preserve those hammies and quads. Some of you might need them for the Golden Lunchbox Tournament on November 1st when the best of the standard teams from Milwaukee and the Twin Cities gather to compete for the kickball champion title.

After the tournament games, all are welcome to join us for the EOS Bash at J&B’s Blue Ribbon Bar and Grill on Bluemound with music, games, Lunchbox/Thermos presentation, and the Hall of Fame induction.

Perfect Fall Ball Weather

I’m not sure the Fall weather can get any better than what we are expecting this week so get out of the house and enjoy it.

Week 6 of Fall kickball season starts tonight.

Enjoy some Free Skee-Ball tonight compliments of our friends at Skee Milwaukee. Join the group at BBC from 7-9pm tonight to roll a few balls, drink some $2.50 Lakefront brews, and kick it with the skeeball family. They’ll explain how the league works, run a couple of tournaments and give out a few prizes and potential free registration for Skeeson VIII!

Any Ultimate fans? I have a group looking for more players to play some pick-up games during the week. MUSA will be looking to sponsor a team in an upcoming Winter league or at the very least a team come Spring time, so start preparing.

Tournament Weekend

MUSA had a very exciting kickball weekend as several players/field monitors were helping out or playing in some pretty cool tournaments.

On Saturday, the rain held off just long enough for the Johnson Controls company kickball tournament to take place. MUSA was asked to help umpire and many current MUSAites were seen playing.

There was a charity kickball tournament held on Sunday to help raise money for childhood cancer research at Helfaer Field. The Return to Recess kickball tournament raised over $10,000 and despite the rain delay, everyone had a great time. Some MUSA Hall of Famers were on hand to ump and there were plenty of fellow MUSA kickballers participating.

Colonel Hart’s needs a win and some help to get into the division semi-finals.

All is set in the White Division as Money Balls, Showtime, Shooters, and Leff’s all have clinched division semi-final spots. Controversy and Practice Squad are on the outside looking in and will be playing the remainder of their schedule looking to the future of next season’s hopes.

Check out the schedule for the upcoming week 5 games.  A big CONGRATS to MUSA Doug E Fresh who will be getting married this weekend!   He’ll be back at the scoreboard for week 6 games.
