The Dynasty Rolls on as Vandelay Grabs #6

In a morning fit to be tied to the rainy Spring 2013 kickball season, the 26th edition of the MUSA Golden Lunchbox Tournament began on time and without much consequence. Sure, McCarty Park wasn’t in the best of conditions to start the day but when the rain stopped and the clouds cleared giving way to the beautiful sunshine, only one team, Vandelay Industries stood tall above everyone else taking home their 6th, yes 6th Golden Luncbox.

Spring 2013 Golden Lunchbox Champs: Vandelay Industries

Standing in their way was a Friday night division rival, Prestige Worldwide. PWW had beaten them early in the season 7-6 and gave Vandelay their only loss but solid defense and clutch kicking saw Vandealy on top 3-2. Next was Suck My Kick, a division winner out of the Thursday Mork division. Suck My Kick held it close for a few innings, but costly errors and mental mistakes cost them a 9-0 defeat and Vandelay a trip to the final four against Fall 2012 Golden Lunchbox champions Blue Balls. Blue Balls previously beat Vandelay in the Fall 2012 Championship 3-0 so you know VI was looking for some payback and payback they got. Vandelay 4 Blue Balls 1.

On to the championship against 3-time Golden Luncbox champion SuperDudes. Vandelay scored 1 run in the top of the first and wouldn’t need anymore as tough defense and very few base runners for either team saw this as a 1-0 snoozer and netting Vandelay Industries it’s 6th Golden Lunchbox. Congratulations!

Spring 2013 Silver Thermos winners: SuperDudes

SuperDudes didn’t have it all that easy either on their trip to the final because they drew powerhouse and previous Golden Lunchbox champion Recreational Hazard out of the Twin Cites league for their first game of the day. SuperDudes fell behind early on a fortuitous bounce for Rec Hazard but were able to regroup and recover to make a statement comeback and pull victory out of defeat 4-3. They then quickly dispatched NBalls & Kickin’ Mules 11-0, 3-0 respectively on their way to what might be the weirdest semi-final I’ve ever been witness to and I’ve seen a lot of them. The ‘Dudes battled division rival Red Ball & Vodka to an epic 3-2 16 inning game that saw each team down to 3 players on the field. (For those that don’t know, in the Luncbox tournament teams must take off a field player for each extra inning) Lots of good plays and lots of bad plays… but an exciting game to watch and amazing that it can be that hard to score runs with very few people on the field. Instand classic.

Thank you to all the umpires for hanging in there and helping out when I needed you. Without you, these tournaments wouldn’t run as smoothly as they do and you are appreciated more than you know.

I also want to thank all the teams for playing this year. I look forward to many more tournaments and seasons ahead.

Recent Updates: Player Profiles & Sub List

In a pretty large update to the MUSA website this week, our friends at Bracketpal have added the ability to create a Player Profile as well as add your name to a Sub List if you feel like testing the Free Agent Market. The demo video below explains how to use it and only takes a few minutes. You might want to turn the volume up because it is a bit soft or you can just read the brief summaries below.
*please note that the MUSA Basketball Gold (stats) league is still currently using the HomeTeamsOnline site for it’s stats.

Player Profile

It’s super easy to create a player profile and have the current and past season info right at your finger tips or mouse clicks. If your captain is slacking and hasn’t added you to the team roster yet, be sure to send them friendly reminders. Captains must first add players to teams before they show up for that season. Ideally rosters would carry over season to season cutting down on redundant work but that functionality might be for another update down the road. I have been told by the owner of Bracketpal that there’s a plan to make a “request to be on roster” function where all the captain would have to do is approve the request instead of typing player names, but no word on when that update will be released.

Don’t forget to upload an action shot of you doing what you do best.. whether it’s at the bar or at the field/court/course.

Sub List

The individual profile might come in handy if and when you feel like lending your services out on the newly created Sub List or… Free Agent Market as I like to refer to it. No matter what skill level, if you need a team this is the place to throw your hat into the ring. We’ve created full teams out of subs lists in the past and if we can do that again we will. We want as many people enjoying the MUSA experience as possible.
This just doesn’t have to be about the players either. Captains, if you’re looking for players it might be a good idea to check out the Sub List. No commitment necessary. You can easily filter your search to easily match your needs. Maybe you need someone to fill in for just one game… maybe it’s the whole season because you and your girlfriend broke up and now your team is short a female. Don’t take that Ghost Out or forfeit… use the Sub List.

Winter Championship Wrap Up

As Winter continues it’s never-ending grip on the Milwaukee area, we have lots to go over since most of our Winter sports wrapped up or are wrapping up this week. We even had a celebrity visit to one of our basketball championships.

Arena Kickball Champions – The Legion

The Arena Kickball league ended on the 14th of March so this is a long time coming, but congratulations goes out to The Legion for winning the 2013 Arena Kickball League. The Legion went 8-0 this season and defeated long time rival Tastes Like Chicken in the championship 5-4.

Thanks to all the teams that played this season and we look forward to hosing another great Arena Kickball league next Winter.

Winter Basketball

2013 MUSA Winter Basketball Champions – Dynasty

I’ll first start with our Tosa stats league at St Bernard’s where Dynasty edged out Colonel Hart’s 45-42 to claim their first MUSA Basketball title since 2008 when they were known as High Octane. Colonel Hart’s beat We Don’t Pass 38-34 in the semi-final game to meet up with #1 seed Dynasty in the final.

Neither team shot the ball all that well, but it was Dynasty’s 50% shooting inside the arc that proved to be the difference. Colonel Hart’s out rebounded Dynasty 24-20 and Jason Jackson from Dynasty lead all scorers with 14 points.

The Spring season will see if Colonel hart’s can make it back to the championship as Dynasty decided to take the season off. Congratulations once again Dynasty for winning the 2013 MUSA Basketball Championship at St Bernard’s.

Coach Dan & Brandon Jennings

Greenfield High School gets a little more publicity this time around because one, I was there and two, Milwaukee Bucks point guard Brandon Jennings decided to drop by and watch the championship. Don’t ask me why, but rumor is, he knows someone on the Wisconsin Together team. Whatever the reason, he walked away disappointed from this one as Midwest Swing ended up defeating Wisconsin Together 81-77.

This rematch was highly anticipated since the two teams battled it out to a week 4 overtime thriller that had Wisconsin Together on top 61-56 and was the only real challenge to the undefeated Wisconsin Together team all season. Until the championship game.

2013 MUSA Winter Basketball Champions – Midwest Swing

Midwest Swing came out on fire and drained the first few 3-pointers and got out to a 12-2 lead and really never looked back. Both teams shot the ball rather well, but the overall reason Midwest Swing won was because of their tenacious defense and not allowing Wisconsin Together to get off open looks. Leave this team open and you’ll pay, but Midwest Swing was able to close the gaps and really pressure Wisconsin Together into some contested shots. It also didn’t hurt Midwest Swing was grabbing rebounds like they were going out of style keeping WT to a lot of one and done possessions.

Congratulations to Midwest Swing for winning the 2013 Winter basketball league at Greenfield High School.

Winter Dodgeball

Dodgeball Champions – Big Ego… Tiny Klug

The Winter Dodgeball League wraps up this week Tuesday at Edgewood Elementary. League champion Big Egos… Tiny Klug beat out Pants Candy last week in an epic battle for dodgeball supremacy and only dropped 1 point all season crowning themselves Dodgeball champions. Both teams distanced themselves from the rest of the league early in the season and were definitely the teams to beat throughout, but Big Ego… Tiny Klug came out on top. I hope to see more dodgeball teams next season and hope someone will be ready to step up to take down either one of these veteran teams or just come out and have a great time like all the teams in the league this year.

Our Rejected Super Bowl Ad

OK, so we didn’t exactly submit it or even have over $7 million it would take to air the minute video, but there is a consolation. Considering it’s Valentine’s Day and after talking to our lawyers, they agreed we could post the video for all to enjoy anyway. So ladies… you’re welcome, enjoy and Happy Valentine’s Day from MUSA!

Milwaukee Summer Fun!

Summer Kickball Enrollment

Time to get your teams geared up for the Summer session as Summer Kickball Enrollment is now online and ready for your team. Please get your forms in early as divisions tend to fill up fast and there’s usually a few teams that I have to turn away because they didn’t act fast enough. Don’t be one of those teams and gather your troops now! The more flexible your team is the better chance you have of playing because not everyone will get their first choice. Premium Draft Kickball

Along with the Summer team kickball we are also offering our Premium Draft Kickball League for individuals who are looking for some competitive kickball. Sign up by yourself or with another person, get drafted to a team and have a great time with some of the best players in the league.

In Premium we keep track of all your stats so you can see how you stack up with some of the best. It might sound a tad bit intimating for some but it’s really not. You’ll be surprised at how fun competitive kickball is. Sign up here!

If you don’t want to play but still want to help out, I was thinking about having full/part time umps for Premium Draft as well. I’ll be there umping, so looking only for 1 or 2 people to help out on a weekly basis. Contact me if interested.

Sunday Funday All-Star/Recess Tournament June 3rd - SAVE THE DATE

Once again we will be offering an All-Star Kickball Tournament for current Standard/Gold players of our Spring session. This of course will be a free tournament. I’ll be looking to captains to send me a few selections from your teams (2 , we can start with 2 male & 1 female to start. It’s possible we may need more. These players will then be placed on a team with other All Stars from other teams. Games will be played at Wick and format will depend on how many players we get.

There will also be a Recess Tournament for all current Recess teams. Format will depend on the number of teams. So if you are a current Recess team and want to compete against other Recess teams in a tournament format, let me know.

I’ll talk to O’Brien’s to see if we can get some good specials. More details to follow to current Spring 2012 captains.

Summer Putt-Putt

Walk the greens of 8 local Putt Putt courses as MUSA offers yet another fantastic summer league. “League”, as in, we do keep track of your scores and have a leaderboard. This will be our 9th season as 50+ players take to the links for various prizes and pure enjoyment. Some take it seriously, some don’t … no matter, it’s about fun with your friends. Enjoy 2 “Majors” and I believe most of the courses serve ice cream and even 1 serves beer. Schedule coming soon, and play begins June 25th so come on and join the ranks here!

Welcome to the new website!

Welcome to the new and improved MUSA website. The goal of our redesign is to consolidate all the bits and pieces we have laying around into one central location for your unconventional – and some conventional – enjoyment. As of right now, it is a work-in-progress because we are a large organization, with sites spread out over many cities covering many different sports. We want MUSASports.com to be the only stop when it comes to the unconventional sports association you love so much, no matter where you are or what sport. This update will be an ongoing process as we transition all the information to the new design, but in the end, it will all be worth it. We promise. Thank you for your patience and your passionate support of MUSA. Stay tuned for more updates.
