Finding out the Game Status

Posted on April 21, 2012 by Coach Dan in Milwaukee Kickball

So, you’re sitting at work and you look outside. It’s raining … now what? Your big kickball game is tonight and you start to wonder what the status of it is. Look below for the list of ways you can find out what’s going on.

Twitter & Facebook – This is probably the fastest and first thing we update.

Check the Milwaukee Kickball page. A banner will be posted at the top with the latest updates.

Something will also be posted in the Milwaukee forum on the website.

I will also send an email to captains from the new site, plus the field monitors will be notified and they will try and either email or text the captains.

At the bottom of every printable schedule from the Milwaukee Kickball page there is a hotline phone number. If you still haven’t heard or don’t have internet access at work go ahead and call 414-604-6872. Please do so after 5pm though.

If none of these are updated with current information, it means games are still on and/or we haven’t gotten any updates from MPS yet. No worries, they usually tell us around 4pm and we then begin updating the items above if things have changed.

If games have started playing and the weather turns on us, field monitors are instructed to call/text me first so I can update items above, then call captains.

We do our best to get you the info as fast as we can, so if you are on Facebook or Twitter we encourage you to Like/Follow Us. Otherwise just check the website in the many options we have. Thanks everyone and we hope that you don’t have to use any of these too often throughout the season.

Thursday teams; VI dominate Arena Kickball Playoffs

Thursday teams; VI dominate Arena Kickball Playoffs

Vandelay Industries: Arena 2012 Champions!

I think I am going to just go ahead and write a default post here and then cut and paste it season after season. At least that is what Vandelay Industries is making me do as it almost sounds like a broken record. The Thursday teams dominated play last night over the Tuesday teams in the Arena Kickball Playoffs as both #1 Vandelay Industries and #2 RBV advanced to the final to meet up for the 2nd time this season.
Vandelay first dispatched of the #2 Kick In a Box in the first semi-final of the evening 8-0. Tough defense by VI coupled with non-favorable bounces on offense kept Kick in a Box off the score sheet as Vandelay coasted to victory.

RBV: Arena 2012 Runner-Up

I guess in what you could call the Cinderella story of the playoffs was #1 seed Aggressive Mediocrity who won the Tuesday league; then you have the #2 seed  from Thursdays RBV who took out the likes of Arena vets The Legion, Blue Balls & Tastes Like Chicken to end up in the playoffs. Aggressive Mediocrity kept it close for a bit but RBV proved to be too fast and too savvy on the base paths for AG and were on their way to a 15-7 victory. Aggressive Mediocrity made a small run in the 9th but only to make the score look somewhat respectable, but truly this one wasn’t that close.

That brings us to the championship game between Vandelay and RBV… There was a slight bit of controversy (and by drama, I mean none at all but it makes for a better story) as these teams share a player and since he chose to play for RBV it left Vandelay a man down.   The player not to be named, actually asked me to play in his absence and as reluctant as I was, I do have to admit I was a bit honored to play for such a high ranking team. Nothing against VI, but I am more of an underdog type supporter and I just can’t match their game time intensity, but I played anyway. Vandelay got out to an early lead and RBV took a few innings to get going but going they did. Chipping away at the lead they found themselves only 1 run down midway through the game after VI couldn’t capitalize on bases loaded and no outs. That wouldn’t be the case a couple innings later as Vandelay had bases loaded again with no outs but were able to break through with 9 runs putting the game out of reach for the RBV’ers. The final – 18-6

Good games and great sportsmanship by all players and teams!
